What is Amanita Muscaria?
Although most of us have never heard of this mushroom, we’ve seen this its depiction in art and pop culture. The Amanita Muscaria is a mushroom with a red top and white spots, and you will find that this color combo usually represents mushrooms.
The two primary alkaloids in their chemical composition are 1) Ibotenic acid and 2) Amanita Complex. However, because Ibotenic acid is usually not the natural extract in Amanita Muscaria, we’ll be focusing on Amanita Complex instead.
Amanita Complex
What makes the Amanita Muscaria mushroom psychoactive is the Amanita Complex. When this mushroom is consumed or dried, it goes through a process known as decarboxylation. In other words, the alkaloids become active.
The reason why it becomes psychoactive is that it attaches to your GABAA receptors in the nerve cells. If this sounds familiar, alcohol is also a GABAA agonist that binds to these nerve cells. In addition, when these alkaloids bind to these receptors, it mimics the GABAA’s natural calming effects.
The “Magical” Mushroom
In ancient times the Amanita Muscaria mushroom was used as a fly repellant; hence its alias “Fly Agaric.” However, it had other practical uses in medicine and religion. In addition, its addition, it’s often depicted as magical because it grows in the woods where gnomes, fairies, and other supernatural creatures are said to live.
The Amanita Complex is why this mushroom was popular in old times. However, you will need to keep in mind that the Amanita Complex is not Psilocybin that is found in “Magic Shrooms” or shrooms. Therefore, the effects are different from these two different types of mushrooms.
What Does Amanita Complex Feel Like?
You will find that the effects of the Amanita Complex are very mellow and chill. This is because it binds to the same receptors that alcohol does. However, nothing in it should cause you to feel hungover. In addition, most users find it best when consumed a couple of hours before bed.
Experienced users also report that they felt mellow but not drugged. In other words, they did not experience a hazy, cloudy mind like they do with THC. Remember that Amanita Complex is entirely natural in the Amanita Muscaria mushroom.
Hallucinogen
Most users don’t report hallucinating when using Amanita Complex. However, there are rumors that if you use high amounts of it, it can, but it’s all been hearsay.
Nutmeg can also allegedly make you hallucinate if you consume high amounts of it. However, we recommend not taking high quantities of Amanita Complex or Nutmeg. You’re more than likely to throw up rather than hallucinate.
Not A Controlled Substance
Neither Amanita Muscaria nor Amanita Complex is a Controlled Substance in the United States, which means you can cultivate, possess, or distribute it. However, local state laws may vary, as in the case of Louisiana.
In Louisiana, state law prohibits Amanita Muscaria and considers it a “Hallucinogenic plant” Also, it restricts people in Louisiana from using any part or portion of the plant. On the plus side, they allow you to use the mushroom as decoration.
